Unnat Bharat Abhiyan

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is a scheme of government of India Ministry of Education with the objective of making higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth.

  • The scheme was first conceived by IIT Delhi.
  • It aims to link the Higher Education Institutions with a set of at least (5) villages, so that these institutions can contribute to the economic and social betterment of these village communities using their knowledge base.
  • While in the first stage only premier institute took part in the initiative, UBA 2.0 launched in 2018, will see open and wider participation of all institutions fulfilling certain criteria.
  • It is expected to be a two-way learning process, where institutions share their knowledge with villages and also learn from the wisdom and common sense of rural folk.
  • It create a virtuous cycle between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions while upgrading the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors in responding to the development needs of rural India.
