 PERCENTAGE
Introduction

The word percent means per hundred. The sign of per cent is %.( PERCENTAGE )
x percent means x hundredths, written as x%.
Similarly if a student gets 20% marks, it means that he gets 20 marks out of 100 marks.( =20/100)

If a fraction number has denominator 100. It is known as percentage and its numerator is called as rate per cent.
Example 1:
Ram  has Rs. 5000 and Ram gives Sam 20%. How much Sam get ?

Sam gets = 20% of 5000= 5000 * ( 20/100) = 1000/-

Percentage Increase / Percentage Decrease

(i) Percentage Change

% Change = (Final value – Initial value)*100 / (Initial value)

=change *100/initial value

(ii) Percentage Increase

Percentage Increase = (Increase value/Base value) × 100

(iii) Percentage Decrease

Percentage Decrease = (Decrease value/ Base value) × 100

Percentage increase/decrease is considered with respect to the Base Value (Initial Value) unless mentioned otherwise.

Example 2 :
The salary of Sachin increases from Rs. 50000 to Rs. 60000. Find the percentage increase in salary ?

Percentage Increase in salary   =(60000-50000)*100 /50000

= 10000 *100/50000

= 20% .
